CalmDown Privacy Policy
🔒 Privacy summary: The App does not require a Developer account, include third-party advertising or behavioral-tracking SDKs, or upload your photos, recordings, angry-word drafts, or mood entries to a Developer-operated server. Most data is stored locally first. If you choose to enable iCloud Sync, supported data is stored in the private CloudKit database associated with your Apple Account.
1. Scope
This Policy applies to the CalmDown experience on iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, widgets, Control Center shortcuts, Live Activities, and related local and iCloud features, and also to the Android version (1.4.6.5 and later).
Apple services—including the App Store, iCloud, CloudKit, HealthKit, Photos, notifications, and Live Activities—are also governed by Apple's own terms and privacy policies. Android (1.4.6.5 and later) does not support these Apple-only capabilities.
2. What We Mean by "Collect"
The App processes data that you enter, select, or permit it to read on your device so that requested features can work. The Developer does not receive this data through a separate server or use it to build an identifiable user profile.
We do not intentionally collect or sell:
- your name, phone number, email address, or government identification;
- precise location, contacts, or browsing history;
- identifiers for cross-app advertising tracking; or
- your emotions, photos, recordings, or Health data for advertising profiles.
The App does not integrate third-party advertising, marketing analytics, or cross-app tracking SDKs. Depending on your Apple privacy settings, Apple may provide the Developer with App Store sales statistics or crash and diagnostic reports. Apple controls that process, and those reports do not include photos, angry-word drafts, voice recordings, or mood entries uploaded by the App.
3. Data Processed by the App
3.1 Content You Create
Depending on the features you use, the App may process on your device:
- mood entries, intensity, triggers, tools used, and notes;
- custom healing messages, pause checklists, Calm Recipes, and preferences;
- angry-word drafts and cooling duration in Angry Words Freezer;
- tool-use counts, Calm Badges, streaks, and feature progress; and
- calming scenario, release target, message style, appearance, language, and haptic settings.
This data is used to display your content, restore progress, create records, and provide the experiences you select.
3.2 Photos and Live Photos
When you choose photos, the App processes only the selected photos or Live Photos, together with captions, category, and favorite status, for Memory Album, Calm Down, and share cards.
The App does not scan your entire library without permission. Saving a share card may require separate permission to add an image to Photos.
3.3 Microphone and Custom Voice Messages
When you choose to record a custom voice message, the App requests microphone access and stores the recording on your device. It records only after you grant permission and start recording.
If iCloud Sync is enabled, supported voice recordings may be uploaded to your private CloudKit database so that they can be restored on devices using the same Apple Account.
3.4 Apple Watch and Health Data
On a compatible Apple Watch, and only after you give explicit permission, the App reads the following through HealthKit:
- heart rate; and
- resting heart rate.
The data is used only to:
- update heart-rate information on the Watch;
- identify an on-device trend of a sustained heart-rate increase; and
- show a general reminder such as, "Your heart rate has been rising. Would you like to calm down?"
For clarity:
- the App does not create, estimate, or display a "stress score";
- the App does not diagnose anger, stress, anxiety, or any medical condition;
- the App does not write, modify, or delete Apple Health data;
- heart-rate and resting-heart-rate data is not uploaded to the Developer's server and is not used for advertising or tracking;
- Health data is not synced as App content through iCloud;
- the analysis and reminder are performed on your devices and Apple Watch; and
- you can revoke access at any time in Apple Health or system settings.
3.5 In-App Purchase Information
Apple processes CalmDown Pro purchases, payment, refunds, and purchase history through the App Store and StoreKit. The App uses only the entitlement result returned by Apple to determine whether Pro features should be unlocked.
We do not receive your full payment-card number or Apple Account password.
3.6 Notifications, Live Activities, and System Status
With permission, the App may process the current feature type, breathing phase, countdown end time, cooling progress, or general reminder state for display through notifications, the Lock Screen, Dynamic Island, Live Activities, widgets, or Apple Watch.
The Angry Words Freezer Live Activity does not display the full text you entered. It displays only the feature name, status, and timing information. People nearby may still see general system messages, so you should manage these permissions for your environment.
4. Where Data Is Stored
4.1 On Your Device
Most user content and settings are stored locally on your iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch. The Developer cannot remotely view that content through a Developer-operated server.
The Android version (1.4.6.5 and later) stores data primarily on-device. Private text, records, and voice are encrypted with Android Keystore, and Android system auto-backup is disabled — uninstalling, clearing app data, or switching phones usually makes local content unrecoverable.
4.2 Private iCloud / CloudKit Database
When your device is signed in to iCloud and you enable syncing in the App, supported content is stored through Apple CloudKit in the private database associated with your Apple Account for merging and restoration across your devices.
Synced content may include:
- Memory Album photos, Live Photos, captions, and favorite status;
- custom healing messages and custom voice recordings;
- mood entries, badges, tool progress, and personal settings; and
- other syncable data expressly supported by the App version you use.
Health data and the full text of Angry Words Freezer drafts are not synced as the App content described above, unless a future version clearly tells you otherwise and obtains any required permission.
4.3 iPhone and Apple Watch Sync
The App can use Apple Watch Connectivity to sync pause checklists, feature states, and necessary interaction data between paired devices. Apple manages this device-to-device communication; it does not pass through a Developer-operated server.
5. Permissions
The App may request these optional system permissions:
| Permission | Purpose | Optional |
|---|---|---|
| Photo selection / read | Select and display Memory Album photos or Live Photos | Yes |
| Add to Photos | Save a share card that you choose to create | Yes |
| Microphone | Record a custom healing voice message | Yes |
| Health read access | Read heart rate and resting heart rate on Apple Watch for non-medical reminders | Yes |
| Notifications | Provide calming reminders, heart-rate trend reminders, or completion notices | Yes |
| Live Activities | Show breathing or cooling progress on the Lock Screen and Dynamic Island | Yes |
Refusing a permission affects only features that require it. You may change permissions at any time in Apple system settings.
6. Purposes of Processing
We process data only as needed to:
- provide the calming, journaling, memory, voice, and interactive features you request;
- save settings, progress, free-tier usage counts, and Pro entitlement status;
- sync content when you enable syncing;
- show necessary status on the Lock Screen, Dynamic Island, widgets, or Apple Watch; and
- maintain functionality, fix issues, and improve compatibility.
We do not use your content or Health data for advertising, sale, data brokerage, credit decisions, or cross-app profiling.
7. Apple and Other Services
The App uses or may call the following Apple services:
- CloudKit / iCloud for optional private syncing;
- StoreKit / App Store for purchasing and restoring CalmDown Pro;
- HealthKit for authorized heart-rate and resting-heart-rate reads on Apple Watch;
- Photos / PhotosUI for selecting photos and Live Photos or saving share cards;
- ActivityKit / WidgetKit for Live Activities and widgets;
- UserNotifications for local notifications and reminders; and
- WatchConnectivity for iPhone and Apple Watch syncing.
Apple operates these services, and their processing is governed by Apple's terms, your device settings, and Apple's privacy policies. The App does not integrate third-party advertising, social tracking, or behavioral analytics SDKs.
8. Retention and Deletion
You can manage data by:
- deleting photos, captions, recordings, entries, pause checklists, or other content in the relevant feature;
- turning off automatic syncing or deleting the App's iCloud data under Profile → iCloud Sync;
- using the in-app factory reset to delete local data;
- revoking Health, Photos, Microphone, Notifications, or Live Activities permissions in Apple settings; or
- uninstalling the App to remove local App data from that device.
Please note:
- uninstalling the App does not automatically delete content already synced to iCloud;
- turning off iCloud Sync does not automatically delete existing cloud data;
- Apple-managed purchase history, Health data, and diagnostics must be managed through Apple's settings or services; and
- iOS or watchOS may briefly retain ended notifications or Live Activity states according to system rules.
9. Security
We rely on system sandboxing, Apple permission controls, and CloudKit private databases to reduce unauthorized-access risks. However, no device, network, or cloud system can be guaranteed completely secure.
Protect your device passcode, Apple Account, and iCloud security. If a device is lost, shared, or left unlocked, another person may be able to see local content or system reminders.
10. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed to children under 13 and does not ask children to submit personal information. Adults who add photos or entries involving children should have a lawful basis to do so and avoid storing unnecessary sensitive information.
If you believe a minor's data has been handled improperly, please contact us using the address below.
11. Your Choices and Rights
Subject to applicable law, you can:
- view, modify, or delete content in the App;
- turn off iCloud Sync or delete cloud data;
- revoke system permissions;
- stop using and uninstall the App; and
- contact us with a privacy question.
Because the App does not create a Developer account or store user content on a Developer-operated server, we usually cannot locate or remotely export your local or private CloudKit data using only your email address. Please use the in-app and Apple system controls first.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy when features, laws, regulations, or Apple platform rules change. The updated Policy will be posted on this page with a new date. Material changes will be communicated through an in-app notice or another reasonable method.
